How do you keep track of warranties?

What this tool does

Warranty Keeper is a local log for purchases: product, purchase date, warranty length, store, optional serial, notes, and an attached receipt. It calculates end dates, highlights what expires soon, and can show browser reminders when you open the page.

Why you need it

Receipts die in drawers and email archives. When a device fails, the clock has often already run out. A single shelf of warranties — with the receipt on the same device — beats hunting through PDF folders under pressure.

How to use it

  1. Enter the product and purchase date; set warranty months (often 24 in the EU — confirm for your case).
  2. Optionally attach a receipt photo or PDF and tap Scan receipt to suggest store and date.
  3. Save — then filter by Expiring soon.
  4. Tap Enable reminders and revisit the page occasionally so the browser can notify you.
  5. Export JSON or a note backup when you switch phones.

Practical examples

  • Headphones: 24 months from purchase — remind 30 days before.
  • Washer: Attach the PDF invoice; open it from the card when claiming.
  • Phone: Store serial + carrier order number in the fields.
  • Moving house: Export with receipts → import on the new laptop.

How it works

End date = purchase date + warranty months. Status is Active, Expiring soon (within your remind window), or Expired. Metadata lives in localStorage; receipt blobs in IndexedDB. Optional scan uses local PDF.js text extraction and/or Tesseract OCR — nothing leaves the browser.

Common mistakes

  • Trusting OCR blindly: Always verify date and store before saving.
  • Expecting cloud sync: This is single-device unless you export/import.
  • Relying only on notifications: Browsers only notify when allowed — open the tool now and then.
  • Treating it as legal proof: Keep originals; this is an organizer, not a claim system.
