How do you check if a message is a scam?
What this tool does
Scam Sense-Check is a local message inspector for phishing and social-engineering texts. Paste an SMS, email body, or chat screenshot transcript. The tool scores classic red flags (urgency, payment asks, impersonation, shady links, secrecy) and explains each hit in everyday language.
Why you need it
Parcel “customs fees,” fake bank lockouts, and “CEO needs gift cards” messages catch people because they create panic. A calm, pattern-based checklist helps you pause before clicking or paying — without uploading private messages to a stranger’s server.
How to use it
- Paste the full message (including links) into the box, or click Load sample.
- Read the risk score, level, and each finding tip.
- Follow the “What to do” steps — usually: don’t click, verify elsewhere.
- Optionally Copy report to share with family (the original text is included — only share carefully).

How it works
The checker runs deterministic rules in JavaScript: weighted regular expressions for pressure language, payment/gift-card asks, brand impersonation, credential requests, remote-access tools, and suspicious URL shapes. Matched rules add to a 0–100 score with plain-English tips. No cloud AI and no URL reputation API in v1 — explainability and privacy come first.
Common mistakes
- Trusting a low score blindly: Absence of matches ≠ proof of safety.
- Clicking “to check” the link: Use official apps/sites you type yourself instead.
- Only pasting part of the message: Links and payment lines often carry the signal.
- Sharing the copied report carelessly: It can include the original scam text and personal details.
